sxsw: pre and health at mohawk

On my last night in Texas, Pre played at Mohawk in a flurry of green tights and blood. They were received so energetically by sweaty kids (including some of Crystal Antlers, who by rights should’ve been dropdown knackered at that point after playing Mess with Texas and roughly 29 other gigs each day) that those of us clinging to the bannister over the stage started getting dizzy.

(More on my failing ability to stand up and general shakiness below, if you like that sort of thing.)

And outside, Health played and were the loudest thing I’d heard all weekend. Still leant against the speaker, though.

As they left the stage, I left the building, more exhausted than I’d ever been in my life, and headed home to start another six hours of processing pictures.

Somehow I still made it up for coffee with Danny the next morning (and God, running downtown for once unburdened by camera, lenses, flash and myriad batteries was stupidly exhilarating) and then to the airport with time to spare.

At some point there was the best tofu on earth at Veggie Heaven at 18th and Guadalupe, costume changes in Houston, tears in a souvenir shop, and a documentary about baby bears called Masha and Pasha, but in my head the timeline’s more tangled than the current season of Lost so that’s the best I can do. The next day I found myself inexplicably back in California checking into a succession of fancy hotels, but that’s another story.

Cheers, Austin. See you next year.

[All my SXSW coverage was for Prefix, duh.]
