occupying barcelona: may 2011 protests

“Los Indignados” were camping out in Barcelona’s Plaça de Catalunya back in May. The square was entirely packed when I arrived one midnight.
A few days later the Mossos d’Esquadra (the Catalonian police) violently cleared the plaza in advance of the FC Barcelona’s appearance in the Champions League final, and the protesters were re-establishing their camp when I went back.
(Then, I got accidentally knocked over and sprained my ankle. Encampment first-aid was limited but very kind. That night, Pulp played Primavera Sound and Jarvis Cocker announced his support for the protesters. I took a ton of painkillers and danced despite the ankle. And, FCB won and people flooded the streets for their victory parade. It was an interesting few days in Barcelona.)
