"Turn the world over on its side and everything loose will land in Los Angeles."
—Frank Lloyd Wright

Rachel Carr started taking pictures as a little kid in Essex, and started seeing bands not much later. She's rumoured to have photographed every concert she's ever attended, but that's probably exaggerated. She accidentally started playing music herself but after a few years figured out that she much preferred taking pictures of bands to being in one.

She got her journalism degree from Westminster in 2003; there was a photography class involved, but she refused to attend because the teacher was pompous. She then got her first magazine job at a glossy in South Kensington, which quickly drained most of the estuary from her accent, and soon enough they let her loose around London with a camera.

Then she ran away to Los Angeles to write and take pictures for travel magazines. In between learning US state abbreviations, she discovered a magical world of eternal sunshine, palm-lined mountain vistas, bands playing free shows every night, pool parties and gorgeous girls who drink a lot— in short, she has a lot to photograph.

She now lives in Echo Park and takes pictures of bands, actors, writers, artists, other photographers and occasionally pomeranians (but they have to pay double.) Sometimes she shoots for prefixmag.com. There's talk of a photographic comic book soap opera in the works, but don't ask her about that just yet. Best not to mention how she's getting an American accent, either.

To send hate mail or love notes, email Rachel (no, Sally Fay won't marry you.) For a photographic overload, go to flickr. To buy stuff, go to countess.etsy and take you pick of prints.
